I decided to listen to another Francis Chan podcast entitled “A new attitude towards authority” while I was varnishing some book shelves. His sermon talked about how we as Christians should be the hardest workers at our jobs & workplaces. Our worth ethic should be so strong and positive, that it stands out in the workplace and people take notice. Not because of pride, but because we choose to not follow the patterns of laziness or passiveness. We should work in such a way that no matter what our task is, we accomplish it to the best of our ability as if it was Jesus we were serving.
If your job was to sweep a floor; If you knew Jesus was going to soon walk on that very same floor, you would sweep that floor as best as you possibly could. You would try to make that the cleanest floor for Jesus to walk on. If your job was to cook a meal for a person; If you knew you that Jesus was going to be the one eating that meal, you would try to prepare that meal in such a way that it would be the most delicious meal that Jesus would eat. If your job was to frame a house; If you knew Jesus was going to walk in that house and see what it looks like, you would try to frame that house in a way that would be of the best quality wood and as stable as possible for Jesus to enter in.
So whatever task I am assigned with, no matter which earthly person in authority I work for, I am suppose to work in such a way that ultimately pleases Jesus. People will take notice, and when they see the way you work, it shines brightly. Most importantly, once they realize that you are a Christian, you become a great witness and testament to the message of Jesus Christ. It makes your message and your faith even more attractive. This is the attitude towards authority that we are suppose to have; An attitude of a servant heart. We ought to be the hardest workers in the workplace. This message really helped me out today, as it most definitely challenged me to live that message out.
I am loving how God is throwing new projects and challenges at me everyday, and I am in a position to respond joyfully and commit my work to Him. I have to, because no matter who I serve or work for, God is my ultimate employer.
